Steady vs. flashing

• Steady light: something needs attention, but you can usually drive to the shop. Common causes include a loose gas cap, an oxygen sensor, or a catalytic-converter issue.
• Flashing light: a serious problem, often a misfire that can damage your catalytic converter. Reduce speed and get it checked right away.
